Colin West is a British author and illustrator. He studied graphic design and his illustrations are very powerful. Most of his picture books have a repetitive text and a wonderful sense of humour.
"Predictable books allow early readers to predict what the sentences are going to say, thereby increasing enjoyment and helping to build vocabulary and memory skills."Education Oasis
Julia Donaldson is a British writer and best known as the author of "TheGruffalo" and "The Gruffalo’s Child". She also writes poems, songs and plays for children.
"Poor little monkey! He is lost and he can't find his mum. Butterfly is vey kind trying to help him but it is not doing it very well ...why?"
Fantastic book to work life cycles!

I love Eric Carle's books! He was born in USA (1929) and is the creator (illustrator and author) of picture books for very young children. Eric Carle has illustrated more than seventy books, most of which he also wrote. His first book was 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?' written by Bill Martin Jr. His art work is created in collage technique using lots of bright colours.
Eric Carle is bilingual, German/English, and his books are great for pupils that are new to the English language because they have got a repetitive structure and pictures are very powerful. His stories invite to participate in a repeated phrase and there is an element of predictability.
Books that have strong repetitive structures allow children to anticipate and predict the remaining text. They give children strong support in their attempts to make meaning.
'Children who are beginning to learn English as another language gain from high quality picture books with clear illustrations, repetitive text and strong language patterns.' Patience MacGregor(1999): .Refugee children. Early Years Educator. Vol.1 No 5
Sometimes the Little Princess needs to improve her manners. Too many 'I wants'...Where are 'the magic words'? "Please" and "thank you" are important words for everyone; for royalty too.
I like to use this book to work sizes and adjectives:
BIG-GIGANTIC- HUGE
SMALL-TINY
I made my own story props (visual aids):
Eddy, the little teddy, the little bed
The gigantic bear, the gigantic teddy bear, the big bed
'Visual aids can help to get the grips with the meaning of a story. If we use them at first reading, they could help pupils to know the characters and the main features.' Patience
I had used this book to make posters (similar to "wanted posters"). I divided the classroom into two groups. One group was pretending to be the little boy and made a poster asking for help to find his teddy bear. The other group was the big bear looking for his big teddy bear.
