The Solar System/El sistema solar

In our solar system there are eight  planets that  circle around our Sun; the Sun is a star. The Sun is in the middle while the planets travel in circular paths, called orbits, around it.

The solar system is divided into two parts:

1. The inner solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. These four planets are the closest to the Sun and they are called terrestrial planets. They are rocky and dense.

2. The outer Solar System: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. They are far away from the Sun and they are much larger (bigger), more gaseous and have got rings.

Why Pluto isn't a planet any more?

The IAU members voted for the new definition of "planet" in Prague, in the Czech Republic. Since 2006, there are planets and dwarf planets;  Pluto is one of the dwarf planets of our solar system.

This means that the Solar System consists of eight planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune)  plus "dwarf planets". The first members of the dwarf planet category are Ceres, Pluto and Eris.

I love this song!
